Are We Now An Information Society In A Knowledge Economy?

Many people believe that we are now living in a knowledge economy and having job skills in manufacturing or other industries will not help you achieve the lifestyle or level of income that you need to support your family adequately. But is this really true?

As we know supply and demand dictates price and let's say you are an automotive car detailer and there are not very many people who can do that job very well; free markets dictate price. The going rate is about $100 for a regular car and $160 for an SUV and takes about 1 to 1.8 hours to complete. Therefore you should be able to earn a good living with that set of job skills.

It is true however that Information is power and it is the power driving innovation and economics. For instance, the IT Industry is in full-blossom with labor shortages and those who are in the IT field can make a substantial amount of money and more than most people in most professions. Our society demands more information and more targeted information. This demand will drive up the value of the employee who is a knowledge worker in that industry sub sector.

Knowledge is Power as well and those who control it also will control the power in the future. Entrepreneurial Capitalists and Industrial Capitalists of past periods owned the land and today we see start-up information companies ruling the World. Information has gone Global and in the process it is getting mobile and it will fly; it will fly like nothing else.

Governments to survive and continue the ability to give information to citizens must upgrade IT Systems and eGovernment Initiatives. Business must cater to this new paradigm and they too must deliver information. In all this information distribution, first the information must be collected and it must be of value and correct. Things are much different now; The Dark Knight Curse citizens do not trust the information from the government then they do not trust the government itself. Transparency and Accountability cannot be buzz-words.

They want the information, the correct information and they want it first and immediately and so, therein lies the challenge for what is normally a half-buttocks effort of bureaucracy. It is time for government to pony-up and come to plate reading to hit a grand slam home run with their eGovernment initiatives because the Click Happy eCitizen has little if any patience and even that is wearing thin as we speak. Chop-Chop as they say or the eCitizens will turn into an eSmart Mob and well we all know what happened in France centuries the prior; Chop-Chop.

I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
